Leading digital bank Chime has launched an innovative new credit card called Credit Builder; surveys have shown that most millennials prefer debit cards to credit cards but this causes a challenge when they go to apply for credit; Chime’s response to this is to launch an actual credit card with payments reported to the credit bureaus but make it feel like a debit card; the Chime Credit Builder Visa Credit Card works in tandem with a “Spending Account” that enables users to use the card for everyday purchases up to the total amount they keep in their spending account; when the payment is due Chime will pay off the credit card from the spending account; Chime CEO Chris Britt said, “Americans have embraced debit cards for greater control but this limits their ability to establish or build their credit score. We created Credit Builder to help our members stay in control and safely build their credit with their everyday purchases.” TechCrunch.
