UK crowdfunding platform The House Crowd has now reported five years of operations with fundraising of more than GBP44 million ($56.26 million); the platform offers property crowdfunding and P2P loan financing services; over 15,000 investors with the platform have earned over GBP9 million ($11.51 million) in returns; it has grown its staff to 20 with a number of recent additions and product expansions. Dow Jones Venturesource has released its first quarter Europe Venture Capital Report; venture capital funding for the quarter was EUR2.23 billion ($2.42 billion); Atomico's Atomico Ventures IV Fund led fundraising with EUR723.30 million ($786.02 million) representing 32% of total fundraising for the quarter; business and financial services was the top funding sector with EUR877.92 million ($954.05 million) across 163 transactions; Funding Circle reported one of the top five deals in the first quarter with its funding round of EUR94.43 million ($102.62 million); by geography, the UK led fundraising with EUR970.28 million ($1.05 billion) from 150 deals and France was second with EUR398.02 million ($432.53 million) from 78 deals; the full report is available here. Growth Street has originated over $67.44 million since its launch in November 2016 with a new CEO and two new executive hires; the firm has now reported 600 new investors on the platform in the five months since its launch; Growth Street provides financing for UK SMEs; the short term financing options appear to be a factor attracting investors; the platform matches borrowers and lenders for 30 days and also allows investors to withdraw funds with notice of 30 days. Collateral has announced plans to test a mobile app for borrowers and investors; the platform sees app development as a trend for the industry and will be one of the first platforms to offer a mobile app for both borrowers and investors; it also expects the mobile app to be a factor for managing competition with banks; Collateral is a secured personal property lender offering loans of GBP5,000 ($6,415) to more than GBP1 million ($1.3 million). The European Commission will implement a pilot project to study blockchain and is formalizing a European Union Blockchain Observatory; members of the Observatory will research blockchain solutions and uses; the Observatory is expected to become an expert resource for advising the European Commission on blockchain development and policy recommendations. Flender has launched a marketplace lending platform to facilitate social network lending for individuals and businesses; during its pilot period it successfully financed social network borrowing in Ireland for business startups, small business expansion, car finance, home improvements and student loans; the launch follows a successful Seedrs fundraising campaign that raised 500,000 British pounds ($608,680). The Luxembourg House of Financial Technology recently opened a new innovation hub; the innovation hub will provide support for Europe fintech businesses and could potentially lure more fintech businesses away from London; in comments regarding the new innovation hub, Nasir Zubairi, CEO of the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology, said: "Over the coming months we will be delivering a number of exciting projects with the community; education programs, hackathons, developer sandboxes as well as the Fintech Awards. We will work with the community to build up a soft-landing platform to make it as easy possible for fintech firms to set up in Luxembourg and we will promote all of Luxembourg's strengths internationally to put Luxembourg first in the considerations of fintech firms looking for an EU hub." The P2P Global Investments Fund has assets under management of GBP833 million ($1.07 billion) and reported an increase of 0.55% in its March NAV; total NAV return for Q1 2017 was 1.18% and the Fund has decreased its discount to 15%; the Fund has been continuously evolving its strategy and is also reviewing its investment manager. Cumulative lending for the Association's members is now GBP8.5 billion; the Association's nine platforms originated GBP1.004 billion ($1.29 billion) in the first quarter with originations led by Funding Circle with GBP328.1 million ($421.6 million); business lending originations totaled GBP636.2 million ($817.5 million) and reported an increase of 17% from the previous quarter and 43% from the first quarter of 2016; overall, Zopa leads cumulative originations with GBP2.17 billion ($2.79 billion) and Funding Circle is following at a close second with GBP2.16 billion ($2.78 billion).
